A Look at the History of Khorfakkan
In 1950, a Venetian jeweler named Gasparo Balbi saw something termed “Chorf” in certain locations along the UAE’s east coast. This eventually became known as Khor fakkan. At Khor Fakkan, the Portuguese constructed a fort, but it was destroyed in 1666.
The commander of the Persian fleet, an Omani Sheikh named Muhammad Sohari, assaulted Khor Fakkan. The primary cause of the Khor Fakkan forts’ state of ruin may be attributed to this. In 1623, Sheikh Mohammad Sohari primarily attacked the East Coast, or what is today the Emirates. Its formal announcement as a part of Sharjah dates back to 1952.
